EPHPHATHA WORLD OUTREACH MINISTRY { EWOM}(Joseph & Remi Aseweje) Gambia Ministry Information THE GAMBIA: INFORMATION POPULATION: 1,688,359 (2007 estimate) MAJOR RELIGION: Muslim (Islam) – 87% PERCENTAGE OF CHRISTIANS: 7% OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: English LITERACY PERCENTAGE: 42.4 % (Male - 50.2%; Female – 35%) EVANGELISM IN THE GAMBIA Comments on the General Conditions in The Gambia The country is peaceful with a stable government and has not experienced war in the modern time. TheGambia is a secular state with freedom of religious expression enshrined in the constitution. Factors that Hinder Work of Evangelism in The Gambia Many indigenous Christians in The Gambia are from Orthodox Churches and are conservatives. Foreigners that are Christians are more than the indigenous Christians. Many still combine fetishist practices with Christianity; bangles, rings, charms, etc. that are made by the traditionalists are worn by both Muslims and indigenous Christians, they do not see anything bad in this act. Socio-Economic and Political Condition on Evangelism Since the Muslims are in the majority, many do not want to be converted; believing that they would be in the minority. They are afraid of the persecution from their family members. Though the government is neutral; in every State functions, Christians are given regard to pray before or after each programme. CHRISTIANITY IN THE GAMBIA Christianity arrived in The Gambia with Portuguese sailors in 1456 when they sailed upriver and landed on James Island but because of their involvement in slave trading their work of evangelism was stunted and gradually disappeared. The 19th century marked a turning point in the history of Christianity in The Gambia. With the establishment of a British colony, the then Governor General, Sir Charles McCarthy made a trip to England in 1820. On his return, he invited different church societies to The Gambia. The first group that arrived in 1821 was the Society of Friends under the leadership of William Singleton. The freed slaves who were the converts came to settle in The Gambia after the creation of Bathurst (nowBanjul). In 1821, the Methodist missionaries – Reverends John Baker and John Morgan arrived and founded Bathurst’s first high school for boys. In 1823, Quakers under the leadership of Mrs. Hannah Kilham arrived with two Gambians converts trained in England. They translated passages of the Bible into Wolof language. They started formal education in the Gambia. In 1849, a Catholic mission was established in the settlement. They converted some tribes like Jola and Manjago over the years. The Church of England arrived last and built a Cathedral of St. Mary in 1901 and also proceeded to build schools and other places of worship. Christianity has spread through education, hospital, social work and movements; especially through the arrival of new evangelical movements from other West Africa countries, vigorous gospel speeches, local assistance and aid had been taken place. There are now over 120,000 Christians of various denominations including Roman Catholics, Methodists, Anglican, Baptists, Jehovah’s witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists and Pentecostal Churches. The Percentage of Christians Roman Catholics -2.5%; Methodist -1.6%; Anglican -1.5%; Others (Evangelical, Pentecostal, etc.)- 1.4% STRENGHTS OF THE CHURCH IN THE GAMBIA Many Gambians have benefited from the education that Christians provided. Most of them have qualified as teachers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, civil servants and taking up international jobs. The Church is given a high regard in the society because of her role in the development of the nation. In all our Christian schools Muslims dominated each class. WEAKNESSES OF THE CHURCH IN THE GAMBIA There are insufficient indigenous leaders in The Gambia. Most of our Churches are headed by foreigners, except Anglican who is headed by a capable Gambian. Many Evangelical and Pentecostal Church leaders are non-Gambians who later leave the country; this affects the continuity of the Church’s growth. Churches here are not capable of supporting the new converts who face persecution from their families. Accommodation, jobs and other incentives should be provided because most of these converts return to their old way of life shamefully when they cannot withstand the persecution. HOW TO MAKE CHRIST’S MESSAGE RELEVANT AND MEANINGFUL TO MY PEOPLE 1. LOVE: The message of love should be preached to non-Christians in word and in action. 2. UNITY: Christians should unite in The Gambia to make a joint force for evangelism. Christians in this tiny country still segregate. Some churches still refuse to join the Gambia Christian Council. Non-Christians would not be able to see us as one. 3. HOLINESS: Christians should live a holy life that would be a challenge to non-Christians. In a nut shell, the message of love, unity and holiness should be taken seriously among the Gambia Christians for Christ’s message to be relevant and meaningful. POINTS OF CONTACT 1. By evangelizing on one-to-one basis, the non-Christians would be brought to Christ. The message here is love. When we show love they appreciate it. 2. By encouraging voluntary Christian youth organizations like The Boys’ Brigade and The Girls’ Brigade. This would be gladly accepted in schools and the Muslims would join while they read the Bible and abide by the Word of God. The message here is to show Christians’ way of life because the aim and object of these organizations are based on biblical principles. THE REAL PROBLEMS/PEOPLE’S NEEDS THAT CHURCH SHOULD ADDRESS Most of these non- Christians are very poor that they cannot afford to send their children to school. Christians should come to their aid and take Christ’s gospel to them as we provide free education from kindergarten to University level. It is much easier for the little ones to be won for Christ in The Gamb EPHPHATHA WORLD OUTREACH MINISTRY { EWOM} EPHPHATHA WORLD OUTREACH MINISTRY { EWOM} INTRODUCTION Calvary Greeting to you all in Jesus name Amen ephphatha world outreach ministry {EWOM} is non -profit making organization in The Gambia and the vision of this ministry is based on the task the lord Jesus Christ gave to me in the 27th August due my personal experiences and passion for women with shattered relationship broken homes, the divorces and many who w is completeness divorce, parent who are brooding due to the war hardness of their children. SISTER REMI ASEWEJE Ephphatha World Outreach Ministry Po Box 17777 Banjul The Gambia West Africa Tel .00220 7723434, 9947313 Email-- ephphatha7@gmail.com DIVINE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST EBOLA DIVINE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST EBOLA Beloved readers, though there are numerous endemics and epidemics through out the universe now, Lucifer understands prophecy and time, because he has very little time to the fulfillment of the prophecy about the rapture of the saint, so he has specially maneuver some of these pestilences as weapons against mankind so as to deprive them from entering into paradise where he had lost. (Matthew 24 vs. 3-31). Most of these killer diseases like MALARIA, CHOLERA, GONORRHOEA< AIDS etc which are from the pit of hell, have alphabet A either at the beginning or end of it. The mark ^ is a great symbol in occultism. Some pestilences which might not have these signs in disguise are yet to be released by Satan. Our prayer is that we shall not be victims in Jesus name. According to Christ’s promise for the elect in verse 22 of the scripture above; to be among the elect that will partake of the privileges one has a role to play. {C}1. {C}Acknowledge that every disease in from the devil and he uses sin a ladder to climb into human’s life. Therefore confess and ask for forgiveness of your sins and that of your parents to the fourth generation. Ask God that if the accuser of the brethren (Satan) should remind God of his verdict that HE shall visit the sins of the fathers upon the children even to the fourth generation………. That the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross of Calvary should speak better things for you more than the blood of Abel. {C}2. {C}Believe in your that you have been pardoned so accept Jesus as your personal Lord and savior by confessing it with your mouth. For HE is the strong tower whom the righteous runs into and he’s being saved. Bravo! You can now ask God anything through Jesus with the assurance of being granted. PRACTICAL SPIRITUAL SAFEGUARD. Though according to human findings, a lot of precautions against Ebola have been discovered e.g. washing of hands with soap and water, bathing with salt water etc. but we urge you all to kindly consider these divine steps. During a session of prayer and fasting for the land of the Gambia which is our Goshen and the neighboringcountries infected by this foul spirit; God asked us to meditate on the book of Leviticus 26 vs 3-7. This is the way out from punishment for disobedience in verse 22 of the same scripture. Note the conditions for obedience in verse 3 before you can claim the blessing for obedience. Read: Romans 3 vs 23-25. Now if you are sure that you are keeping God’s statues and commandments the you can follow these steps {C}1. {C}Every morning as you wake up before talking to anyone, give God quality worship of at least 30mins. (with singing, dancing and words of adoration) thank God because you are still alive and not infected {C}2. {C}After thanking God, speak in tongue for at least 5-10 mins (if you can). Then pray like this: - God, I cover myself with the blood and by faith I hide myself behind the cross of Jesus Christ. (Remember to hide your Spouse, Children, relatives, well – wishers and neighbors there too, mention their names one after another. Believe that Ebola or any other pestilence must first touch Christ on the Cross, so since HE has hung every disease on the cross, and you are behind the cross then you are save. Also ask God to build His edge of fire round about you and those you are praying and also ask HIM to surround all of you with his angels. {C}3. {C}Ask God to exchange your DNA with the DNA of Jesus Christ and as his blood is flowing in your body surely you and those you are praying for shall be immune against any virus. {C}4. {C}Hold your Bible in your hand assuming you are before Jesus at Golgotha where HE was crucified. Open you bible and place it on your right palm and stretch it forward, collect the blood of Jesus by faith starting from (1) the head (2) the right hand (3) the left hand (4) the blood and water that gushed out from his side when pierced (5)the blood from his legs. Five symbolizes mercy/grace, so say that God I stand before your throne of mercy and plead for mercy; so with faith I sprinkle the precious blood of Jesus Christ upon my home. Imagining and practicalising it. Sprinkle the blood all over your household; make sure you reach every nook and cranny {C}5. {C}Dip your two hands in the bucket of water for bathing tell God, as it is written in the book of Psalms 28 vs 2, that His voice should be upon the water and turn it to the blood of Jesus Christ. Read these scriptures into the water { 2 Thess 3 vs 3 (7 times), Revelation 12 vs 11 (5 times) and Leviticus 26 vs 4-6 (3 times).}or if[possible you can read as many times as you are led And pray for protection, as you bath with it, you and your household stand secured. If you cannot use bucket but shower to bath. Then it is better to bless the water in a container and rub it all over your body after bathing. Note, allow the water to dry in your body. If you know time is not on your side, then you can find a big container with lid. Do the same prayer on it then you can be mixing the sanctified water with drinking from it always. {C}6. {C}Remember also to pray before leaving home, lay your hand on your kids before going to school. Ask God that there shall be red carpet of Jesus’ blood under your feet that every place you sit, touch, treads upon should be covered; also cover the air you inhale with the blood of Jesus Christ. {C}7. {C}Finally and the most important; STOP CALLING EBOLA! Call it ugly names e.g. beast, foul spirit, naughty pestilence, monster etc. whenever people mention the name, it goes towards their direction just as anyone will want to answer to his/her name. When we start call Ebola these horrible names it bows its ugly head rather than raising it and go back to hell where it came from. To our fellow ministers of the gospel. We are not trying to be sanctimonious, but please the teaching on ESCHATOLOGY is very rare on our pulpits nowadays. Kindly let us intensify on preaching about the rapture and the events of the latter days. Let us teach our congregation how they can seek the Kingdom of God and HIS righteousness. Blessed readers, it is obvious that greatest phenomena to safeguard against this beast is the blood of Jesus Christ and the word of God Behold the blood of Jesus is available to all mankind not only Christians. Just as anyone can go to public tap or borehole to fetch water if thirsty; so can any man plead the blood of Jesus Christ. Dear brethren in Christ, let us cultivate the habit of praying for our neighbour even if you know they are your adversaries. Parents and guardians please nurture your children in the way of God, instill the fear of God in them, teach them good morals, monitor their mode of dressing, places they go to and friends the move with. As we do this, rate of immorality and corruption will be reduced in our society. Remain blessed and rapturable.
